Angel fever la weatherly7/8/2023 ![]() ![]() I don’t think the pictures of the characters really match the descriptions in the book, but it’s not a major issue! I have to admit, I’m not a huge fan of the images used. The first thing you’d notice about the books is the cover. When I say I couldn’t put it down, I mean it! As soon as I finished the first I bought the second (Angel Fire), and bought the third (Angel Fever), after finishing that – I read through them all in three days. ![]() I was completely sucked into the characters world, and couldn’t put my phone down I read it before I got ready for work, I read it on the bus to work, I read it walking through town, I read it all night. So, I read this first book, in literally just over a day. I can’t remember how much it was on there, it may well have been free! Even if it wasn’t, it was no more than £3. ![]() Last week on Twitter, I saw somebody recommend a book called Angel by L.A Weatherly, and after looking up the synopsis, I decided it sounded good and bought it from the iPhone book store. I will warn you, this post gets a bit geeky and “fan girly”. You’d more than likely find me sat in my room or snuggled into the corner of a sofa with a good book instead of playing out like the majority of young children. Reading is always something I’ve enjoyed, since I was a young girl. However, recently I read a series of books and felt like I had to write about them. I haven’t posted about a book in what feels like months, mainly because I read a lot of similar books and I don’t want to bore you with repetitive quotes. ![]()

Indistractable website7/8/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() When you give your undivided attention to a task and choose to ignore distraction, you maximize the momentum of your brain and thought function. The brain is not optimized by multi-tasking behaviors, in fact, it is depleted. Living with distracted focus can increase stress in the body. Our relationships with the people closest to us are taking a hit because of the electronic interferences that we have allowed to interrupt us from what we value most in life. When Nir asked his daughter why she chose that particular superhero power, she said: So that I have someone to talk to when you and mommy are on your phones. ![]() Nir's daughter chose this one: the ability to speak with animals. There are so many shiny objects competing for our attention, it's easy to drown out our ability to focus on any single task or activity.Īfter a client of mine shared his learnings from a seminar he took by Nir Eyal, I was moved to get Nir's book: INDISTRACTABLE.Īccording to Nir, he coined the term "Indistractable" after playing a game with his daughter where they both had to choose a superhero power. Do you ever have a hard time concentrating on the task at hand because your mind is preoccupied with the previous task? Let's face it, we can all relate to being distracted these days. ![]()

![]() ![]() A deeper reading could encourage critical thinking by comparing the different pastimes of the neighbors or, ultimately, what it means to be home. This offers a perfect prompt for young children to create extensions of other stories they have read or heard. The book is intriguing in that it contains twice-told stories, once as they are observed and second as the bunny imagines them. Award-winning author and illustrator Akiko Miyakoshi's softly focused black-and-white illustrations with just a touch of neutral color have a dreamlike quality, just right for nodding off to sleep with. “Are the party guests saying goodnight? Is the person on the phone getting ready for bed?” And what of the footsteps that can be heard in the street as the bunny falls asleep? “Will she take the last train home?” This beautiful picture book captures the magical wonder a child feels at being outside in the night. But the bunny continues to wonder about the neighbors' activities. When they reach home, the father rabbit tucks the bunny into bed. “Most of our neighbors are already home.” The bunny can see their lights in the windows, and hear and smell what they might be doing: talking on the phone, pulling a pie out of the oven, having a party, saying goodbye. A mother rabbit carries her young bunny home through the dark, quiet streets. “My mother carries me through the quiet streets,” the bunny explains. A gentle, dreamlike tale about heading home in the night. ![]() A mother rabbit and her young bunny are on their way home in the dark night. ![]()

Without Fail by Lee Child7/8/2023 ![]() Reacher employs the aid of a retired colleague, Neagley, a woman as skillful as he in the field. Reacher’s brother filled large shoes as well, killed five years earlier in the line of duty.Īlthough the two men had lost touch over the years, maintaining a careless approach to family ties, their emotional bonds were based in blood, their physical appearances eerily similar, a distraction to ME Froehlich, the recently appointed agent in charge of Secret Service operations to protect the new vice-president and former rejected lover of Jack’s brother. In Without Fail, Reacher is contacted by a former colleague/paramour of his deceased brother, hired to attempt an assassination of the vice-president elect in order to test the elaborate system of defense already in place by the Secret Service. ![]() A military outlaw of sorts, ex-Agency, Reacher’s methods are more often brutal and unconventional than not, taking on the aberrant criminals who think outside the rules of engagement and act with impunity. ![]() It takes someone with superior reconnaissance skills and above-average intelligence to tackle the sinister men who people Jack Reacher novels. Jack Reacher may be an acquired taste, but fans of Lee Child will not be disappointed in this latest adventure, although Reacher’s usual violent nature is held in check through most of the book, giving readers a more subtle appreciation of this protagonist’s abilities. Outcast, Vol. 1 by Robert Kirkman7/7/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() It opens with a boy who is (presumably) possessed by a demon.Īnd Kyle Barnes gets a call from his mother asking for him to come because she knows he's helped other people who've had this happen to them. <-this sort of thing may not be an issue for everyone, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Plus, there just wasn't much detail to the panels, which (at times) made it difficult to understand exactly what was happening. What I meant to say is that it annoyed me because a lot of the faces tended to be indistinguishable from one another. Now, I mentioned that I didn't care for the art. Now, I won't go so far as to compare it to Supernatural, but it does have a distinct Odd Couple hunting demons vibe to it that I really liked. And you know what? The kid was kind of right! I may have put off reading it because the art is less than appealing, but another friend dubbed it an R-rated Supernatural, so that pretty much bumped it up to the top of my list. Sent to me in a goodie basket, and so far it's one of my top picks! I'd never heard of Kirkman's Outcast, but it was another of the Halloween Horror comics my friend ![]()
